Praise for my mornings
NaPoWriMo Poem #11 is from an alternate prompt list today. So many prompts, never enough time!
Today’s prompt comes from poet
and her generous list from “A Short History of Writing Prompts.” As an example, she shares part of “Praise the Rain” by Joy Harjo.Prompt: What in your own life would you like to praise? Write a praise song, filling it with your own particular and unexpected images and details.
Praise the AeroPress pressing down on the grounds Praise the white milk frothing in the silver jug Praise the foam forming clouds in the violet mug Praise the hands that make my coffee each day. Praise the hair clips I clip into my daughter’s hair Smoothing down the gold-brown into braids Praise the black dirt under her fingernails From “planting” a garden of snapped-off twigs. Praise the thick loops of curls on our middle son’s head Like a lion turned into a junior high boy Praise the dimples that deepen when he laughs really hard A treasure we’re willing to dig for. Praise the small silver van and the big white van Corralled in the driveway, dented and plain We thump the rock wall when we’re not careful Leaving shards of taillights in our wake.
Oh, Margaret, how creative! I like the lines about the dirt under your daughter's fingernails from "planting a garden" of twigs.
Well deserved praise !!
