This is another prompt from Nelly Bryce (Poetry Pals) for her Poetry in Summer challenge (Week One, linked below). The prompt is "summer color." That can only mean yellow to me.
This good poem makes me think of this: "Some see the sea as being green; some see it as blue." You talk of a yellow summer and give examples for this claim. Good job!
Beautiful, Margaret! I was stuck on the color of summer. It tends to gray in the Bay Area, as you know. I sometimes feel like I’m in an alternate universe, when everyone else is hot. But you’ve reminded me of summer sun and I love that.
Thank you, LeeAnn! You’ve made me think about the mornings when the fog was still really low and everything was whitish gray. I kind of miss that. I could see summer being gray!
“A million coins of light” - this poem is so full of richness
Thank you. I think you found my favorite line. I could see the shimmer on the ocean so clearly in my mind’s eye.

Thank you, Luis!
'the late afternoon ocean, a million coins of light
shining hard against the waves, the shout of fire
from the fireworks, yellow sparks racing down
to the yellow-scrawled ground'
Such lovely descriptions here Margaret. Got richer on second reading.
Thank you, Sea! This was one of those poems that just rushed out. I did a little revision but some things just want to be said 💛.
Rushed out, love that!
Does the running for you.
😊 Exactly!
Wow this is so sweet, sensuous and beautiful! I adore the imagery! 🌻🌼🐝
Thank you so much, Jennae!
“A million coins of light shining hard against the waves” - this is stunning, Margaret!
Thank you, Lisa! 😊
💛💛💛
😊
Somehow this makes me miss yellow, despite how prolific it is right now!
😊
Beautiful 💛
Thank you, Lisa 💛. These prompts have been so lovely.
Look at all those fabulous yellows! 💛🌿💛
😊
Lovely ☀️
Thank you, Ange!

Oh I love this one! It reminds me of Pablo Neruda. Have you read "ode to a lemon"?
Thank you, Ethan! I just went and read it. It’s gorgeous!
As is yours!! :)
What a compliment. Thank you, sir!
oh the beautiful heart of a poet
😊
Beautiful indeed.
Thank you, Tam. It’s been so fun seeing you posting the summer poems (though of course you know I’m a critter fan as well).
A new adventure will go up this weekend. Currently awaiting more eyes for the next critter.
Love the imagery and especially the rhythm of this one!
Thank you, Mike! This was definitely one of those poems where all the words came rushing out at once (which is always fun).
