Thank you, Lisa! It was very satisfying to return to this one and re-work it. I’m constantly amazed by how true it is that “a poem is never finished, only abandoned” (Paul Valéry, as paraphrased by Auden).
Oh that final stanza! both the beauty of the rainbow of objects and then the insight that makes me sigh and gives me a delighted tingle at the same time: "more things than a woman should ever be expected to juggle." Yup, I know that feeling too well.
Thank you, Melanie 💛. Sometimes I love the juggling; I like puzzles and patterns and figuring stuff out while moving fast. And sometimes I’m just so tired and I drop everything 🫠.
Thank you, Odunoluwa 💛. I love revision. There’s something about feeling like you almost had “it” (whatever “it” is), and then revision makes “it” a tiny bit closer.
I love this!!! 🩶

What a lovely and insightful poem. Love the poem, Love to see the outcome of your revision process over time.

This is so cool!
Thank you, Lizzy! Sometimes the poems just write themselves when I see my kids’ art.
Oh my goodness I love this poem!
