This is a marvelous example of poetry out of calamity. Well done! Reminds me of something Kierkegaard said about poets' moaning being turned into beautiful music. I also like how it feels sort of like an upsidedown sonnet, including a rhyming couplet thrown in.

Thank you so much, Jonathan! Now I want to re-read it and find this upside-down sonnet… 😊

This is wonderful. I’m glad you all are feeling better. I love how you capture what’s actually going on in the moment in your poems, good or bad or in between. It’s such a gift.

Thank you, LeeAnn. Poetry is such a good outlet when everything feels upside-down 💛.

Those little waves of despair can feel so big! You created such beauty out of it with this poem, though, Margaret Ann.

Thank you, Lisa 💛. I was worried that the poem was too whiny (I know there are much bigger problems), but you’re right—little despairs can loom large when you’re worn out.

It always comes in 3s. Once that third bad thing happens I can always relax again.

Ha! Oddly enough, the gate at the bottom of the stairs broke too (which caused some calamity with the dog and the cat, who live very separate lives 😁).

Yes…! I’m so relieved that we’re done being sick for now. There’s still broken stuff around here, but honestly, I prefer that over covid.

I love hearing that!!! I’m a fan too. I hope she will keep going with it—this painting is at least four years old and she’s only gotten more talented.

I could honestly listen to your writing all day. This poem is so rich, so satisfying, solidifying almost. The rise and fall. I know this is so much harder to do than you make it appear! I really like this poem. x

Thank you, Serena. It was a rough couple of weeks and definitely felt endless at times; it feels good to let go of some of that stress through a poem.

I’m glad things have turned around for you and your family. It is true how when it rains it pours—but it also makes for a poem, and a good one, at that! May the coming days bring you a bit of peace!
